Geography

Choose a subject

Geography is more than just a subject; it’s a powerful lens through which students can explore and make sense of the world around them, and a gateway to understanding and shaping the world.

Blending the analytical skills of the sciences with the evaluative approaches of business studies, geography equips students with a unique skill set that is highly valued in today’s interconnected world.

These transferable skills prepare students for success across a wide range of fields, from business strategy and logistics to environmental science and urban planning. We foster curiosity, global awareness, and a passion for sustainability, ensuring our students are not just learners but future leaders capable of addressing the complex challenges of our time.

Through geography, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills, alongside a deep understanding of global systems, human interactions, and environmental challenges.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9), students embark on their journey to becoming global citizens. They explore a wide range of topics, including the forces that shape coasts, the challenges of urbanisation, and the complexities of development.

By engaging with themes such as climate change, geopolitics, and natural resources, students learn to appreciate the interconnectedness of our world. Hands-on fieldwork activities enhance their understanding, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking about real-world issues.

In Years 10–11, students delve deeper into global and local challenges through IGCSE Geography. They investigate complex topics such as fresh water management, urbanisation, and geophysical hazards. This stage sharpens their analytical and evaluative skills, preparing them to address pressing global concerns.

Fieldwork remains a key component, enabling students to apply their knowledge practically and see geography come to life.

Syllabus Cambridge IGCSE™ Geography

Years 12–13 focuses on the IB Geography programme, where students develop into synoptic thinkers and global citizens.

Students study advanced topics like geopolitics, sustainability, and climate resilience while linking these to real-world contexts. The programme incorporates the Theory of Knowledge (ToK), encouraging students to reflect on how knowledge is constructed and applied in geography.

By the end of this stage, students are well-prepared for university courses such as Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Sustainable Development, International Relations, Physical Geography, and Human Geography.

Geography also opens pathways to careers in environmental consultancy, GIS and data analysis, disaster management, urban design, teaching, climate research, and even roles in international organisations like the UN or NGOs.
