We had a wonderful time celebrating the Year 5 end of year assembly this week! The students delivered a thoughtful and engaging presentation on species that are existing, endangered and extinct, showing just how much they’ve learned about the importance of protecting our planet’s wildlife through song and poetry. As part of 'sing up' day, the students sang a range of songs throughout the assembly, in small groups and as a whole year and impressed everyone with their performances. The students' favourite memories of their time in Year 5 were shared on boards across the Russ Law Hall.
Following the assembly, parents joined their children in the classrooms for a series of fun games and activities, making it a joyful (and competitive in places!) celebration of learning and community. It was an entertaining morning all round and a fabulous way to finish the year with our Year 5 students.

Secondary Section Update - 12 June 2025
Year 11
Congratulations to the Year 11 students who have now completed their Cambridge IGCSE final examinations. Two years of hard work, followed by a long and challenging period of examinations has finally come to a close. Well done to everyone in Year 11, enjoy the summer break and good luck for next year as you join IB1. I look forward to hearing positive news about your successes when results are released in August.
End of year Reports
A big thank you to everyone for making the end of year examinations run so smoothly before the holiday. Thank you to students for working hard, parents for their support and arranging transport, and to colleagues for invigilation and marking scripts. Quarter 4 reports are now in the final stages of review and checking ready for publication on the Engage portal by Thursday 19 June. We will provide an email update for parents and students once the reports are published.
Attendance
Learning continues until the end of the academic year; it is therefore critical that students are attending school so as not to be disadvantaged compared to their peers.
Non-Uniform Day
Next week we host a blue themed non-uniform day on Tuesday 17 June. Students can gain house points for each piece of blue clothing worn while a photobooth, a volleyball match, nut-free baking competition and bake sale will take place. Students should bring SAR 10 for the non-uniform day, SAR 5 for the photo booth and any funds they choose for the bake sale. All funds raised contribute to demonstrate our thanks to the wonderful site team, affectionately known as “the men in blue” who make such a difference each day in our school.
IB1 Science
We will also conduct the Coordinated Science project for IB1 students on Wednesday 18 June – this being an important requirement of the IB Diploma Programme.
Mr Scottorn's Message
Finally, this is my penultimate Secondary Update as my family and I will leave Jeddah in the near future. Thank you to all members of the school community for your support over the past five years and your kind words and warm wishes for the future. It is much appreciated, and I know that other departing colleagues are equally appreciative.

A big thank you to all the parents who joined us for our Year 1 End of Year Celebration. This special event beautifully tied in with our final topic of the year - Green Fingers! The students have been learning all about seeds and plants, and they shared their knowledge through lively songs and a delightful retelling of The Tiny Seed, a story that follows the journey of a seed through the plant lifecycle.
They also showcased their creativity with stunning flower mosaic art made from a variety of seeds. It was a wonderful way to celebrate how much our Year 1 students have grown, not just in their learning, but as young individuals.

Y11 IGCSE Exams
Good luck to our Year 11 students as they reach the final push to complete the Cambridge IGCSE examinations. Maintain the hard work and keep going right to the end.
End of Exams for Y7, Y8, Y9, Y10 and IB1
Our students and teachers will be delighted that today is the final day of our internal end of year examinations. Well done to all students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and IB1 in completing the examinations. I hope that this has helped to secure learning into your memories ready for future recall and provided opportunities to demonstrate the skills that you have developed throughout the academic year. Good luck to all the teachers as they finalise the heavy marking load arising from the examinations and prepare Semester 2 reports. Those reports will be published by Thursday, 19 June.
Eid break
We now enjoy a week holiday to celebrate Eid Al Adha with school returning on Wednesday 11 June from when feedback and feedforward activities related to areas of individual and collective improvement identified via the end of year examinations will be conducted. It is therefore important that all students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and IB1 attend school after the Eid holiday right through until Thursday 19 June.
For now, enjoy Eid and I look forward to reconnecting after the holiday.

Soaring Success at the House Technology Challenge!
This year’s House Technology Challenge took flight—literally!
Students from Year 1 to Year 6 teamed up in groups of 3–4 to design, test, and redesign their paper aeroplanes, competing for the smoothest and furthest flight. The challenge encouraged creative thinking, resilience, and collaboration as each group had multiple chances to improve their designs.
With House Leaders, Captains, and Vice Captains guiding the way, students showed us what STEM learning and House spirit look like in action. From laughter to lift-off, every moment was a blast!

Graduation
On Friday evening we celebrated the graduation of the class of 2025. The event was spectacular and a huge success. Thank you, all the graduates, their families, colleagues and other attendees for joining us to celebrate and wish the class of 2025 all the very best for the future. Special thanks go to the Park Hyatt Hotel for hosting the event so well, to Ms Sherin Safadi our amazing guest of honour for her inspiring address to the graduates, our student speakers and performers, and to Mrs Carole Makhoul and Mr Edward O’Gorman for all their hard work over many months in preparing for the graduation. A reminder to our graduates to kindly return the graduation gowns and complete the BISJ Clearance form. We now look forward to great news regarding IB examination results in July.
Exams
We continue to wish our Year 11 students’ good luck in their Cambridge IGCSE final examinations. Good luck also to all students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and IB1. For whom the end of year exams has now commenced and will finish on Wednesday 4 June. The seating plan and exam schedule has been sent once again in case anyone has misplaced either of them. A reminder that students are on study leave until Thursday 5 June and should arrive at school 20 minutes prior to examinations and leave the school directly after being dismissed from examinations.
Eid Al Adha
BISJ will then be closed for the Eid Al Adha holiday from Thursday 5 June until Tuesday 10 June inclusive. School continues after the holiday from Wednesday 11 June until Thursday 19 June. During these 7 days of school important feedback and feedforward activities will be undertaken to reinforce required areas of learning identified in the end of year exams.
IB1 Science
The Coordinated Sciences Project for all IB1 students will be on Wednesday 18th June. This is mandatory part of the IB Diploma Programme conducted once per year, IB1 students must therefore be in attendance in order to be awarded a grade in their Science subjects within the IB Diploma Programme.

In Year 5, students explored island formation by designing and creating their own model islands.
They began by shaping their islands using papier-mâché over recycled materials, carefully building up features like mountains, beaches, and rivers. Once dry, they brought their creations to life with vibrant acrylic paints, adding detail and colour to represent different landforms and natural features.

IB2 and Y11
Congratulations to the IB2 students on completing the IB Diploma Programme examinations. We look forward to celebrating their hard work and perseverance at the IB Graduation ceremony on Friday evening. For the Year 11 students, Cambridge IGCSE examinations continue. Keep going everyone and maintain the great attitude and hard work you have shown so far.
End of Year Exams
The end of Year examinations commence next week on Thursday 29 May, and run until Wednesday 4 June. The exams are for all students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and IB1. Revision should be well underway now by all students. A reminder that the exams are there to help reinforce prior learning and to help commit the knowledge to long term memory so it can be recalled when necessary. They also help departments to assess students key skills that have been developed. The examination schedule and seating plan has been resent again for reference. Please note that students must take responsibility for bringing all stationary items and calculators required. Any water bottles and pencil cases need to be transparent please to ensure that students become familiar with board examination requirements.
BISJ Sports
Well done to our U14 Boys and Girls Basketball teams who competed at the Red Sea Conference last weekend. We had four teams entered and were successful in winning both the boys and girls championships. Good luck to those teams as they compete again this weekend in Riyadh competing in the national level SAIKAC competition.

Last Day of School on 19/6
Finally, a reminder that the BISJ academic year does not finish after exams. We return to schools after the Eid Al Adha holiday on Wednesday 11 June for feedback and feedforward activities related to the end of year examinations. To support progress and improvement plus further learning and enjoyable activities. School finishes for the summer break on Thursday 19 June and we expect to see all students across Years 7, 8, 9 10 and IB1 in school every day through to the final assembly on the last afternoon of the academic year.
