Music at BISJ
Making music is deeply rewarding. Whether learning an instrument, singing in an ensemble, or performing on stage, students experience the joy of creating something beautiful and the confidence that comes from mastering a skill they care about.
At BISJ, students can:

- Join choirs, bands and ensembles
- Perform in school concerts and events
Our programme supports beginners and advanced students. We help every learner grow at their own pace.
CHOIRS, BANDS AND ENSEMBLES
We run a large range of enrichment and CCA sessions across primary and secondary, all free to join:
- Primary (Y1-Y6): Choirs, drums and percussion, rock band, ukuleles, music technology, and show season performances.
- Secondary: Choir (preparing for regional festivals), rock bands, percussion ensemble, jazz band, school musical, and singing enrichment.
- Orchestral ensembles: Beginner strings and woodwind groups, beginner brass, recorders, and concert band bring students together across both phases. These ensembles give students a reason to keep practising and give the school something to hear at concerts, assemblies and festivals.
WHY MUSIC MATTERS
Beyond the sheer pleasure of playing, music learning strengthens memory, focus and communication - skills that help across every subject. Students engaged in music often achieve higher grades in maths and English, and develop better pattern recognition and working memory.

Instrumental Tuition and Music Opportunities
Students can learn an instrument and take part in music beyond the classroom. Lessons build skill and confidence, and students have many chances to perform across the year.
- Piano, guitar, drums, brass, woodwind and ukulele available
- Beginners and advanced students welcome
- Rotating timetable so students do not miss the same class every week
- Tutors collect and return Primary children from class
- Secondary lessons take place before or after school
- Limited instruments available to borrow in Secondary (brass and woodwind)
- Perform in school concerts and showcases
We are a Trinity College London accredited exam centre for students to enter their instrumental exams.
- Graded instrumental exams available
- Grades 6 and above may support UK university entry (parents should check with their chosen university)
Costs
We offer competitive prices and students can have lessons of either 30, 45 or 60 minutes (depending on availability). Prices vary depending upon the length of the school term.
Once enrolled in the Instrumental Music Tuition programme, students on the register will have first access to certain performance opportunities.
