Physical Education at BISJ fosters a holistic approach to student development, integrating physical, mental and social well-being.

From Key Stage 3 to IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science, the curriculum supports a well-rounded, holistic education that nurtures lifelong learners who value health, performance and well-being.

At Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9), students build fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and an understanding of the benefits of physical activity through a broad curriculum covering individual and team sports.

The focus is on skill acquisition, personal development, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for active lifestyles. This stage lays the groundwork for progression by instilling core competencies in movement, resilience and collaboration.

The IGCSE Physical Education course refines these foundational skills, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical performance.

Students explore key concepts such as anatomy and physiology, skill acquisition, and the socio-cultural influences on sport, alongside personal performance assessments.

The curriculum promotes independent learning and critical thinking, preparing students for advanced study while reinforcing the importance of well-being and physical literacy. The IGCSE also introduces principles of training and fitness, bridging the gap between physical activity and scientific understanding.

At IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science (IB SEHS) level, students engage in an interdisciplinary approach, combining biomechanics, exercise physiology, and psychology to analyse human performance.

This advanced study deepens scientific understanding and applies theoretical concepts to real-world sporting contexts, encouraging students to explore the broader impact of sport on health and society. The IB curriculum promotes research skills, inquiry-based learning, and ethical considerations, ensuring students develop both mental and physical competencies.
